Shakespeare in the Classroom

For teachers working with students of all school-going ages.

We are delighted to invite members to join us for “Shakespeare in the Classroom” with Heather Visocchi!

About Heather:

Heather trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland – one of the world’s top performing arts education institutions.

Whilst there, she was the winner of the prestigious Duncan Macrae Memorial Award for the Speaking of Scots Verse.

In her third year she specialised in the study of Theatre in Education and went on to gain her Post Graduate Certificate of Education from Strathclyde University.

She has been a practitioner of the delivery of Drama to students in a variety of settings ever since.

Her career has spanned 30 years and in that time she has taught students in Primary, Secondary and Special Education Schools as well as bringing up her own 3 children!

Before moving from Scotland to Dublin in 2020 she was the Head of the Drama Department within the Faculty of Expressive Arts at Madras College in St Andrews, Fife – a post which she held for 8 years.

During her time at Madras, she had various student groups participate in the Shakespeare Schools Festival – the world’s largest youth drama festival – giving young people the confidence to see that all the world is their stage.

She also ran many theatre trips to both The Globe Theatre in London as well as to Stratford Upon Avon.

Since moving to Dublin, she has continued to work as a teacher in a private Performing Arts School and most recently has returned to the classrooms of two Secondary Schools to teach Drama.

Heather is a Guest Lecturer on the Higher Diploma in Arts in Drama Education (HDDE) at Griffith College, Dublin – on delivering Shakespeare in the Classroom and has contributed workshop material for the Leinster School of Music and Drama – based on Shakespeare in the Classroom.
